In the Indo-Pak war of 1971, 120 Indian soldiers defeated the Pakistani army at Longewala in Rajasthan. The film 'Border' based on this heroic saga of Indian soldiers was released on 13 June 1997.

The film had actors like Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Jackie Shroff and Akshay Khanna. The film was released on around 290 screens across the country. The film was also released at Uphaar Cinema in Green Park, South Delhi. It was an evening show so the cinema hall was packed to the brim. The film was about to end but at around 5:30 pm, the transformer on the ground floor of the cinema hall caught fire.

Before anyone could understand anything, the fire engulfed the entire hall. Some people died of burns and some died of suffocation. 59 people died in this accident and more than 100 people were injured. Not only this, the car parked in the parking lot of the hall also burned to ashes.

At 7 am on the same day, the transformer in the hall caught fire. After about half an hour of effort, the fire was brought under control. By noon, the transformer was repaired and power supply was resumed. However, even after repairs, the transformer was still sparking and leaking oil. The hall management did not pay attention to this and this negligence took the lives of 59 people. This is the incident of June 13 which is difficult to forget.
