5 more cases of Zika virus reported in Pune, health department alert

Five new cases of Zika virus have been reported in Pune, Maharashtra. PMC on Saturday confirmed five more people infected with Zika virus in the city, including three pregnant women. With this, a total of 11 cases have been reported since June 20.

What is Zika virus?

Like dengue and chikungunya, Zika is also a viral disease spread by the Aedes mosquito. It is a non-fatal disease. However, babies born to Zika infected pregnant women have microcephaly (reduced head size), making it a major concern.
