Deaths due to heat wave continue in Pakistan. A major NGO has said in a statement that 450 people have died due to heat in Karachi in the last four days. Edhi Foundation said in a statement that it has recovered 427 bodies between Saturday and Tuesday. Apart from this, the Sindh government recovered 23 bodies from three government hospitals on Tuesday.
The maximum temperature in Pakistan's coastal city of Karachi has been recorded above 40 degrees Celsius since Saturday. 40 degrees is considered very high for this coastal city. The NGO said that it is currently running four morgues in Karachi. However, due to such a large number of bodies, there is no space left in the morgue. NGOs believe that most of the bodies are of homeless people and drug addicts.
The NGO found 128 bodies on Monday and 135 on Tuesday. Amidst the scorching heat, the people of Karachi are also facing the problem of power cuts. According to Karachi Electric, the Sindh government has not yet paid the outstanding amount of Rs 10 billion.
