Pilgrimage to Amarnaath: The Amarnath Yatra, which began on June 29, is going on peacefully. Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) officials said that another batch of 1,477 pilgrims left for Kashmir from Jammu on Tuesday. With this, the total number of pilgrims who have gone on the Amarnath Yatra so far has reached 4.66 lakh.
The Amarnath Yatra began on June 29. It will conclude 52 days later on August 19 with the festival of Shravan Purnima and Rakshabandhan. On Tuesday, a batch of 1,477 pilgrims left from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu in two security convoys.
“The first security convoy of 13 vehicles carrying 377 pilgrims left for the Baltal base camp in north Kashmir at 3.25 am. Another security convoy of 39 vehicles carrying 1,100 pilgrims also left for the Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camp in south Kashmir at the same time,” officials said.
The yatra is going on peacefully and smoothly this year due to the exceptional security arrangements of the CAPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police. The cave temple has an ice structure that rises and falls with the phases of the moon. Devotees believe that this ice structure symbolises the mythical powers of Lord Shiva. The cave is located at an altitude of 3,888 metres above sea level in the Kashmir Himalayas. Devotees reach the cave temple via the traditional south Kashmir Pahalgam route or the north Kashmir Baltal route.
The traditional route to the Pahalgam cave temple is 48 km long. Due to which it takes 4 to 5 days to reach Baba Barfani. The other route is Baltal. It is 14 km long. People who choose this route return to the base camp on the same day after darshan.
