Mumbai: Due to the ongoing power-sharing impasse in Maharashtra. The CM and two Deputy Chief Ministers took oath on December 5, 12 days after the assembly results were declared on November 23 and now ten days after the oath, the remaining ministers took oath today. A total of 39 ministers took oath today. It is said that he has also been made a minister only for two and a half years. To calm the anger of the disgruntled MLAs, an assurance has been given that there will be a major reshuffle in the cabinet after two and a half years. However, after the swearing-in ceremony today, a new cabinet meeting was held but the departments were not divided. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the allotment of accounts will take place in the next two to three days. Thus, a new chapter of establishment of power in the state has begun.
Today, after the CM and two Deputy CMs took oath, the total number of ministers in the state has increased to 42 after 39 ministers took oath. According to the recommendation of the government commission, a maximum of 43 ministers can be made in the state. In such a situation, now the cabinet has become housefull. Today 19 MLAs of BJP, 11 of Shinde Sena and nine of Ajit Pawar took oath as ministers.
The expansion was delayed due to ongoing conflict between allies over the size of the cabinet and allocation of departments. Due to this, the oath ceremony had to be held in Nagpur instead of Mumbai. The winter session of the state assembly is scheduled to begin in Nagpur from tomorrow. So in any case the expansion had to be done today itself. Today ministers took oath at Raj Bhavan in Nagpur. However, the account allocation was not disclosed. Eknath Shinde has demanded Home Department but BJP is not ready to give way for it. It is believed that due to the dispute, the allocation of house and other accounts is stalled.
It is being told that in today’s expansion of Maharashtra Cabinet, a condition has been set that the ministers will be sworn in for two and a half years only. According to the discussion in political circles, an affidavit has also been written by the ministers that they will leave the ministry after two and a half years and will not raise any opposition.
According to the information, only Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar will remain on their posts for five years. The cabinet will be reconstituted after two and a half years. It is being told that this formula has been adopted to convince the MLAs who were deprived of ministerial posts. However, there are doubts regarding the actual implementation of this formula.
Ajit Pawar himself had confirmed that such a formula has been prepared. He said that the number of ministerial posts is limited. Not every candidate can be made a minister. Therefore a formula of two and a half years has been adopted. After two and a half years, other MLAs may get a chance at ministerial post. Eknath Shinde also said that after seeing the performance of the ministers, a decision will be taken on who should continue as ministers and who should not. However, without disclosing the two-and-a-half year timeline, Fadnavis only said that the grand alliance has decided to conduct an audit of the ministers’ performance. Fadnavis claimed that a decision has already been taken regarding account sharing.
While 33 MLAs took oath as cabinet ministers, six took oath as ministers of state. Governor PC Radhakrishnan administered the oath to the new ministers at a ceremony held on the eve of the winter session of the state assembly to be held from December 16 to 21 in Nagpur.
The new cabinet includes state BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule and Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar. With this expansion, the foundation of large-scale changes in the BJP organization in the state and Mumbai has also been laid.
Pankaja Munde has returned to the state government. He had earlier been a minister in the Fadnavis government in 2014. Later he was pushed into the political jungle and started being counted among the dissidents of BJP. Chhagan Bhujbal is also among the veteran leaders dropped from the cabinet. They are not included in the NCP quota.
Nitish Rane, famous for his controversial statements, has also got a place in the cabinet.
