Aadhaar card link was to be linked to ration card by March 1. Ration card holders who did not do so have stopped getting grains. 20 thousand cardholders in Rajkot city and 33 thousand in the district did not get cheap grains. This is the situation of unlinked ration card holders in districts including Rajkot, Jamnagar, Amreli, Junagadh, Porbandar, Surendranagar, Gir Somnath, Dwarka, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Gir Somnath and Botad. Not only this, if one or two people of the family do not have Aadhar card, then their ration card has been blocked. However, officials of the Cheap Grain Association have protested on this issue. The association demands that the government take immediate decision in the interest of the poor.
The government has given March 31 as the last date for the beneficiaries to link their ration cards with Aadhaar. To stop ration card fraud in the district, the work of Aadhaar seeding has been going on at a fast pace for the last few months.
Till now 82 percent of the beneficiaries' ration cards have been linked to Aadhaar. The remaining 18 percent beneficiaries will have to link their ration cards with Aadhaar in this financial year. If the beneficiary does not link it with Aadhaar, his ration card can be cancelled.
Last year itself, a notification was issued to cancel ration cards which are not linked to Aadhaar card. But such beneficiaries have now been given the last chance to link Aadhaar card till 31 March 2024.
If the remaining beneficiaries do not link Aadhaar this time too, their ration cards may also be cancelled. All PDS vendors and block supply officers have been ordered to link with Aadhaar.
