Guwahati, March 29 (HS). The team of Jorabat police post of the capital conducted a search operation and seized a container carrying 31 cattle. Also the police has arrested the driver.
Police said on Friday that based on a tip-off, a container (AS-01JC-7181) was seized during a special search conducted on Jorabat Link Road in the Assam-Meghalaya border area of Police Chowki area.
In the seized vehicle, 31 animals were being illegally smuggled to the cattle market of Meghalaya. The driver of the vehicle, Mohammad Saddam Hussain, has been arrested in this case. All the animals were being brought in a very cruel manner.
It should be noted that despite strict animal laws being in force in the state, animal smuggling continues. The police are investigating the matter by registering an FIR in this regard under the Animal Act.
