Meerut Development Authority (MDA) has announced a Rs 300 crore project to solve the problem of traffic jams and facilitate smooth transportation in the city. Under this ambitious plan, widening of roads, construction of new roads, and construction of elevated roads will be done.
In the first phase, 12 works will be completed at a cost of Rs 165 crore. This initiative will not only improve traffic but also modernize the city’s infrastructure.
Main points of the project
- Solution to jam problem:
- Extensive plans have been made to clear traffic jams on major roads and intersections in Meerut.
- Major roads will be widened:
- Roads like Hapur Adda, Tejgarhi, Kila Road will be widened.
- New Roads and Elevated Roads:
- An elevated road will be built from Bacha Park to Tehsil.
- A new road will be built to connect Kila Road from behind the university and the jail.
Roads selected for widening
- From Tejgarhi to Murlipur village.
- From Hapur Adda intersection to Gandhi Ashram.
- Kila Road from Jail Chungi to Bhawanpur.
- From Kankarkheda Bypass to Kailashi Hospital.
- From Rajarajeshwari Mandap to Garh Road.
Encroachments will be removed while widening these roads.
New roads and elevated roads will be built
- Elevated road from Bacha Park to Tehsil.
- New road to connect Kila Road from behind Chaudhary Charan Singh University and Jail.
Budhana Gate police post will be shifted
- Purpose of Transfer:
The police post located at Budhana Gate will be removed so that the road can be widened. - Result:
- You will get relief from traffic jams caused by checkpoints.
- This road can be used as a bypass.
Beautification of intersections and roads
- Lalkurti intersection.
- Toddler Park.
- Commissioner residence intersection.
- Hapur base.
- Football square.
- Metro Plaza.
- Jail toll.
- Underpass of the road leading to Baghpat.
Project progress and responsibility
- DPR work started:
- The work of preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the project has been entrusted to RITES Limited.
- The survey will start soon.
- Two phases of the project:
- In the first phase, 12 works will be completed at a cost of Rs 165 crore.
- The remaining work will be done in the second phase.
