3 killed, many policemen injured

Sambhal: There was a dispute regarding the survey of Jama Masjid in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, where the local people pelted stones at the survey team and the police. Due to which many police officers and soldiers were injured. Firing also took place during the violent protest, in which three people died, while more than 20 people including police were injured. The injured include SP’s PRO, PSO, Deputy Collector. There is unrest in the area since Tuesday.

It has been claimed in the local court that Sambhal’s Jama Masjid was built by Babar by demolishing the Harihar Temple, later the court ordered a survey of this mosque. Even before the survey team arrived, a huge crowd had started gathering. As a result, a large number of police were deployed to ensure security. The police had earlier appealed for peace but it had no effect and the protesting police were attacked.

Moradabad Divisional Commissioner Anjaneya Kumar Singh said the protesters set vehicles on fire and pelted stones at police vehicles. Police released tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. Some unknown people opened fire, SP’s PRO was shot in the leg, PSO was hit by shrapnel, a constable’s head was blown off, Deputy Collector’s leg was fractured. Naeem, Bilal and Nauman were among the three killed in the firing. Police have started investigating the firing incident. Along with this, the police have detained 10 people including two women. During this entire violent demonstration, the mob set fire to more than 10 vehicles.

On one side there was a violent situation and on the other side the survey team completed the survey work inside the mosque in a peaceful manner, now this report of the team will be presented in the court on 29th November. At present, barricades have been installed around the mosque. At present, a large number of security personnel have also been deployed in the entire area. Some people threw stones at the police from the rooftop. Due to which many soldiers were injured. In view of the situation, the SDM has banned keeping stones, soda bottles or inflammable substances on the rooftops in Sambhal.
