3 killed, 118 arrested

Kolkata: The implementation of the Waqf Amendment Act has started across the country, while Muslims have continued protests against the Waqf Act. Protests took place in Muslim -dominated districts against the Waqf Act in West Bengal, protests in Murshidabad became violent, killing three people and injured several people, including policemen. The Calcutta High Court has ordered the deployment of central forces in the violence affected areas, staring at violent protests. On the other hand, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday assured Muslims that the Waqf Amendment Act would not be implemented in West Bengal.

Violent protests are taking place against the Waqf Amendment Act in many districts of West Bengal. The blood -soaked bodies of father and son were found in a house in Shamsherganj area of ​​Muslim -majority Mursharganj district. He had bruises on many places on his body. The family alleged that the violence robbed the house before killing the father and son.

On the other hand, the protests in Dhulian also became violent, where the rioters looted several houses. In addition, one person died in the shootout. There was widespread violence in Sati and Shamsherganj areas of Murshidabad.

However, after violence in Murshidabad, the police on Saturday imposed several restrictions in the violence affected areas and suspended internet services. Along with this, the police have arrested more than 118 people. The police is investigating CCTV footage and arresting more people. Apart from this, Additional Director General of Police Javed Shamim said that the local police was not involved in the firing incident. This action was probably taken by BSF.

On the other hand, the Calcutta High Court has blocked the violence spreading in Murshidabad. The High Court on Saturday ordered the deployment of central security forces in the violence affected area Murshidabad. The Leader of Opposition in West Bengal, Shubhendu Adhikari, filed a petition in the High Court demanding the deployment of central security forces in the violence affected areas. A special bench of Justice Samen Sen and Justice Raja Basu Chaudhary said that the High Court cannot sit on hand under such circumstances. The main objective of the High Court is to restore peace in Murshidabad and protect everyone. The High Court also said that those responsible for the violence should be immediately identified. During the hearing, the lawyer of Shubhendu Adhikari said that the situation in the state is very serious and the state government is not allowing BSF to work. Therefore, immediate deployment of central security forces is needed in Murshidabad.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has appealed to the people to maintain peace amid violence spreading in many parts of the state including Murshidabad. He wrote on the social media platform X that he does not support the Waqf Amendment Act. The Waqf Amendment Act will not be implemented in West Bengal. Then why does violence happen in the state? He appealed to the people that I have a humble request to people of all religions to maintain peace.
