Anti-Hindu images and slogans painted outside the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Temple in Edmonton
This is not the first time that Khalistanis have targeted Hindus and their temples in Canada. Earlier in July, a Hindu temple in the Canadian province of Alberta was vandalized and its walls painted with anti-Hindu slogans and graffiti. On the morning of July 23, 2024, the exterior of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Temple in Edmonton was found daubed with anti-Hindu paintings and slogans.
Temple management informed Edmonton Police about the incident
The temple management informed the Edmonton Police about the incident. The words 'Hindu terrorists' were written on the walls of the temple, targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian-Canadian MP Chandra Arya. This is the fourth time since September 2022 that a BAPS temple has been targeted in Canada. Earlier, in September 2022, the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Temple in Toronto was painted with pro-Khalistan pictures and slogans.
In April last year, a BAPS temple in Windsor, Ontario was similarly targeted, followed by a BAPS Swaminarayan Sansthan temple in the Metro Vancouver area in August 2023. Overall, more than 20 Hindu temples in Canada have been similarly targeted since 2022. Canadian law enforcement agencies have not yet identified the people behind the incidents.
