25-year-old Dalit youth caught stealing dies in police custody, public anger flares up, violence in UP

Uttar Pradesh Firozabad News : In Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, after the death of Akash (age-25 years), who was in jail for theft, a crowd of people got agitated and clashed with the police. When the police used force to control the crowd, violence broke out and the angry people started pelting stones at the police.

Why did the matter get worse?

According to reports, after the death of Dalit youth Akash, as soon as his body reached his house in Himayupur area, the local people got angry with the police. Meanwhile, stone pelting started on the police and the police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd. Then the people started shouting slogans against the police administration.

The mob set police vehicles on fire

On seeing the dead body, the uncontrolled crowd set several police vehicles on fire and started vandalizing the hearse. After seeing such a violent reaction of the people, additional force was called from the nearby police station. After which the police and the angry crowd came face to face and the people chased and beat up the policemen.

A Dalit youth was arrested on charges of theft

The uproar started when 25-year-old Dalit youth Akash died in Firozabad district jail. Police arrested Akash on charges of theft. The family of the deceased Akash alleges that the police beat him badly before sending him to jail and sent him to jail in a bad condition where he died. It was claimed that he was not even given medical treatment.
