2024 election campaign echoes quiet, final voting tomorrow

New Delhi: The campaign for the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections has been completed. With this, the campaign for this election has also stopped. Now the final phase of voting will be held on June 1 and the election results will be declared on June 4. In the final phase, voting will be held on a total of 57 seats in seven states and one union territory Chandigarh. This includes all 13 seats of Punjab, four of Himachal, 13 of Uttar Pradesh, nine of Bengal, eight of Bihar, six of Odisha and three of Jharkhand. Voting has been completed on 486 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats in 28 states and union territories.

Voting percentage was 66.14 in the first phase, 66.71 in the second, 65.68 in the third, 69.16 in the fourth, 62.2 in the fifth and 63.36 in the sixth phase. BJP's election campaign was led by Narendra Modi, during which he attacked Congress by accusing it of corruption, snatching the property of Hindus and giving it to Muslims, giving OBC reservation to Muslims. Along with this, the issue of Ram temple was also raised. At the same time, the opposition India Alliance called BJP anti-women, youth, farmers, reservation and constitution. They also claimed that if BJP comes to power, it will change the constitution and snatch away reservation.

Around 8360 candidates are in the fray in the Lok Sabha elections. Out of which 1643 (20 percent) candidates have said that criminal cases are pending against them. Out of these candidates, 1191 (14 percent) have cases of serious crimes like murder, attempt to murder, crime against women and hate speech registered against them. In the seventh and final phase, 199 out of 904 candidates have criminal cases registered against them, out of which 151 candidates have cases of serious crimes pending against them. ADR Institute studied the affidavits of 8337 out of a total of 8360 candidates in which this conclusion came out.

If we look at the top five candidates with the most criminal cases, BJP candidate from Wayanad in Kerala K Surendran has 243 criminal cases against him. Out of which 139 are serious crime cases. BJP candidate from Ernakulam in Kerala KS Radhakrishnan has 211 criminal cases registered against him. At number three among the candidates with the most criminal cases is BJP candidate Arjun Singh contesting from Barrackpore in Bengal.

If we look at both the main parties BJP and Congress, 191 out of 440 BJP candidates have criminal cases against them, while 143 out of 327 Congress candidates have criminal cases against them. There has been no decrease in the number of candidates with criminal cases in 2019 and this Lok Sabha election. If we look at the assets, 2572 out of a total of 8337 candidates are crorepatis. In which Chandrashekhar Pemmasa of PDP has the highest wealth of Rs 5705 crore, Konda Reddy of BJP has Rs 4568 crore, Pallavi Srinivasan Dempo of BJP has Rs 1361 crore, Naveen Jindal of BJP has Rs 1241 crore and Nakul Nath of Congress has Rs 716 crore. Whereas in this Lok Sabha election, the number of women candidates has been below 10 percent in all the seven phases. Only in the sixth and seventh phases this number was above 10 percent. Out of a total of 8337, only 797 (9.56 percent) women candidates were seen in the election fray.
