The violence that started last year in Manipur has not subsided yet. Keeping in mind the latest developments and law and order, the Center has sent 20 more companies of CRPF to Manipur with around 2,000 personnel. Sources said that the Home Ministry on Tuesday night ordered the immediate airlift and deployment of these companies.
At least 10 terrorists were killed in an encounter with the CRPF on Monday, 11 November. The terrorists, dressed in uniform and armed with sophisticated weapons, opened indiscriminate fire at Borobekara police station and the adjacent CRPF camp at Jakurdhor in Jiribam district. 10 terrorists were killed in retaliation by CRPF soldiers. After the encounter, security forces have recovered a huge cache of weapons. After this action of security forces, a tense situation has arisen in Manipur. The extremists are continuously firing from the hills. According to the state police, violence has been reported from several places in the Imphal Valley following Monday’s incident, in which there was exchange of fire between armed groups from both sides.
Now more than 200 CAPF companies in Manipur
Sources said that of the 20 new companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) being sent to Manipur, 15 are from CRPF and five from Border Security Force (BSF). These companies will be among the 198 CAPF companies already deployed in Manipur following last year’s violence. It has also been said that as per the order of the Home Ministry, all these CAPF companies will remain under the Manipur government till November 30.
