Mumbai: The state government has informed the Bombay High Court that the investigation into the Badlapur sexual harassment case has been completed and the senior woman police inspector has been suspended for dereliction of duty. It was also reported that two charge sheets were filed against the deceased accused and against the trustees of the school. Two constables have been given a strict warning for not taking the matter seriously.
The government lawyer on behalf of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) told the court that after the completion of the investigation, the SIT has been dissolved.
Departmental inquiry found that Badlapur police station officials had delayed registering the FIR. The senior lady inspector of the police station has been suspended. The court was also told that his salary has been stopped for two years.
The High Court voluntarily intervened and ordered a committee to look into the safety of children in schools and other educational institutions. The court was told that the committee would submit its report in January 2025.
The court has fixed the hearing on December 19 in the matter of providing police protection to the parents of the deceased accused.
The government lawyer told the court that the accused’s parents had refused police protection but were worried that Himalo would carry out an attack at home. A policeman is stationed outside his house. However, the parents’ lawyer denied that the police had refused to provide security. The court said that the parents should have been present in the court. Earlier, the court had reprimanded CID on its poor accounts.
There was an uproar after the sexual harassment of two girls in a school in Badlapur and the accused died in an encounter with the police while being taken to court after being arrested. The accused’s father has demanded an investigation, accusing him of encountering his son.
