Mumbai: The Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested two employees of Thane Zilla Parishad’s water project for accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a contractor, the ACB said on Tuesday.
According to the complaint of the contractor appointed for the rural water supply scheme, the accused executive engineer and peon demanded Rs 27 thousand to pay the bill for their work.
Later the accused agreed to reduce the bribe amount to Rs 20,000.
The contractor was not ready to pay the bribe, so the matter was reported to the ACB.
The anti-corruption agency on Monday laid a trap in the water planning office, where an engineer in Pune was caught taking bribe on behalf of an engineer, the official said.
The ACB said both the accused were arrested and a case was registered against them under relevant sections of the Protection of Corruption Act.
