Mumbai: The Customs Department seized 2.9 kg of gold worth Rs 1.72 crore from five people, including two foreigners, at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Thursday and Friday. These people were trying to smuggle this gold into India by hiding it in different parts of the body.
In this regard, according to an official of the Customs Department, due to increasing incidents of gold smuggling at the airport, a strict vigil is being kept on suspicious people coming from abroad. On Thursday and Friday, the Customs Department, under different incidents, caught a total of five people, who were smuggling gold. These people also include two foreigners who came to Mumbai from Dubai. Custom officials seized 1520 grams of gold hidden in body parts from both of them.
In another incident, two men were picked up from Jeddah and both of them had gold hidden in their check-in luggage in the amount of dates they had brought with them. In another incident, about 500 grams of gold was seized from two tourists from Dubai and Bangkok. These people had brought this amount of gold hidden in the body cavity.
