188 buildings in Mumbai are in danger, municipality warns

Mumbai: Mumbai Municipal Corporation has released the list of 188 residential buildings in the city in view of the upcoming monsoon season. Which is very dangerous and in dilapidated condition.

The municipality has appealed to the people living in such dilapidated and dangerous buildings to move to safe places as a precaution.

Of the 188 buildings included in the list released by the municipality, the most dilapidated and dangerous buildings are 114 in the western suburbs. Then there are 27 dilapidated buildings in lower Mumbai and 47 in the eastern suburbs, they are in C-1 category.

The municipality has declared the buildings extremely dangerous and dilapidated under Section 354 of the Act 1888. Residents living in these buildings have been requested to move to a safe place before any untoward incident. Also, the concerned officials have been asked to take necessary steps before the monsoon.

The municipality has put the list of dilapidated and dangerous buildings on the municipal website uuu.sabayas.ryap.aih. According to Section 353B of the Municipal Act 1888, owners of private buildings older than 30 years and housing society holders are required to undergo structural audit of the buildings. And structural stability certificate will have to be submitted to the municipality.

The municipality has also warned of taking action if the societies do not follow the guidelines of the municipality.
