New Delhi: America may deport about 18 thousand Indians during the tenure of newly elected President Donald Trump. This information has come to light from data released by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
17,940 Indians in danger
According to this, 17,940 Indians living in America are among the 1.45 crore people who are at risk of deportation. ICE said deporting immigrants living in the US without proper documentation is part of Trump’s border security agenda.
Donald Trump will take oath as the President of America on January 20 next year. He has been an advocate of strict immigration policy for immigrants. ICE released this data in November 2024.
had to go through a long legal process
Accordingly, 17,940 Indians have been placed on the final order list who are not in ICE custody but are awaiting deportation. Many of these Indians have had to face the legal process for more than three years.
In the report, India’s name is included among the 15 countries which are accused of not cooperating in the deportation process. According to statistics, in the last 3 years, about 90,000 Indians have been caught illegally entering the US border.
These countries are on top
Most of them are from states like Punjab, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. However, countries near the border still top the number of illegal border crossers into the US.
Honduras ranks first with 261,000 undocumented immigrants. It is followed by Guatemala with 2,53,000 migrants. If we talk about Asia, China is at the top with 37,908 illegal immigrants. India ranks 13th overall with 17,940 migrants.
