18 coaches of a train going from Howrah to Mumbai derailed, two dead, 20 injured; rescue operations underway

Train on Tuesday morning in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharsawan district 18 coaches of train number 12810 Mumbai-Howrah Mail derailed. Two people are reported dead in this accident. 20 passengers are injured. Out of the total injured, five people have suffered minor injuries and were treated on the spot. However, some passengers have been admitted to the hospital. This train which left Howrah on Monday night met with an accident on Tuesday morning. PRO of Chakradharpur Railway Division said that arrangements are being made for a train to send the passengers.

Police said that the accident happened at 3:45 am near Barabas, about 80 km from Jamshedpur. This place is very close to West Singhbhum. 18 out of 22 coaches of Mumbai-Howrah Mail derailed near Barabas. One passenger died in coach B4. At the same time, it is being told that another person is trapped in the same coach. It is said that there were a total of 16 passenger coaches, including one pantry car, while one was a power car. Medical assistance was provided to the injured in Barabas. They are now being taken to Chakradharpur for better treatment. He said that the rescue operation is going on.

An administrative official said that this rail accident happened at Potobeda in Kharsawan block of Seraikela-Kharsawan district. A spokesperson of South-East Railway said that a goods train also derailed near the spot. However, it is not clear whether these incidents happened at the same time or at different times.

Divisional Commissioner of West Singhbhum Kuldeep Chaudhary said that two people have died in the incident, while 20 people are injured. NDRF team has been called for relief and rescue work. The place where this incident happened is close to the border of West Singhbhum and Saraikela-Kharsawan.

A help desk has been set up at Howrah Railway Station following the derailment of the Howrah-Mumbai Express near Chakradharpur in Jharkhand.
