The reason for so many employees retiring at the same time is also very interesting. May 31 is considered a very special day in the history of Kerala. Last year, 11800 employees retired on this date. Actually, before birth certificates were made mandatory, everyone's date of birth was given as May 31 at the time of admission in Kerala schools. Due to its historical tradition, the government is facing this crisis today.

Earlier, several media reports had claimed citing sources that the retirement age in Kerala could be increased. But, this was not done. Now the next crisis before the government is to manage Rs 9000 crore. Apart from this, the Kerala government has also expressed concern to the central government over the loan limit not being fixed for the first quarter of the financial year.

Kerala is currently facing an economic crisis. The state has been running an overdraft since the beginning of this month. The relief for the government is that all these employees will not withdraw their money together. Many of these people prefer to reinvest only in the treasury.

About half of those retiring are teachers. Today, 15 people, including five special secretaries, will resign from the secretariat. About 800 people are leaving the police force. About 700 drivers and conductors will retire from KSRTC. There are plans to rehire drivers on a temporary basis. Also, 1,010 employees are retiring from KSEB. Retiring employees will be replaced by lower-level employees in all departments. However, due to the considerable delay in informing the PSC about the vacancies, in addition, the number of employees in some departments is also being considered.
