New Delhi, June 18 (HS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new campus of Nalanda University in Rajgir, Bihar on Wednesday, June 19. The ruins of Nalanda were declared a United Nations Heritage Site in 2016. The university has been conceived as a joint collaboration between India and East Asia Summit (EAS) countries. Many eminent dignitaries, including heads of missions from 17 countries, will attend this inauguration ceremony. This information was given by the Prime Minister's Office.
The campus has two academic blocks with 40 classrooms with a total seating capacity of around 1900. It has two auditoriums with a capacity of 300 seats each. It has a student hostel with a capacity of around 550 students. It also has several other facilities including an international centre, an amphitheatre with a capacity of up to 2000 persons, a faculty club and a sports complex.
The campus is a 'net zero' green campus. It is self-sufficient with solar plants, domestic and drinking water purification plants, water recycling plants for reuse of wastewater, 100 acres of water body and many other eco-friendly facilities. Nalanda University has a deep connection with history. The original Nalanda University, established around 1600 years ago, is considered to be one of the first residential universities in the world. It has been the pride of not only Bihar but India.
