Addis Ababa: Ethiopia, located in the north-eastern part of Africa, has been receiving heavy rainfall for the past few days. Due to this, landslides are occurring in many places. Among them, 160 people have been buried in a landslide caused by heavy rains in Kenchoshaya Gojadi district of southern Ethiopia. Local administrators said that most of the buried people were small children and pregnant women.

The death toll during the rescue operation since Monday stood at 55. But as the rescue progressed, the number kept rising. On Tuesday, the death toll rose to 160, said Kasaji Abapiner, head of communications for the Gofi zone. However, five people were rescued from the mud during the rescue operation.

The official further said that landslides are common due to heavy rains. But the landslide was tremendous, children were clinging to the bodies of their parents. It is natural to be heartbroken to see this.
