According to the Panchang, the full moon date of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month will start on October 16 at 08:41 pm and will end the next day i.e. Thursday, October 17 at 04:53 pm. Therefore Sharad Purnima will be celebrated on 16 October. On this day the moon will rise at 05:04 am.

Moonrise on Sharad Purnima will happen at 5:04 pm. On Sharad Purnima, Kheer is kept in the moonlight. The time for keeping Kheer is from 08:40 pm.

Why do we keep kheer on the night of Sharad Purnima?

According to religious beliefs, on the night of Sharad Purnima, the moon is composed of 16 phases and there is rain of nectar on this day. The moon's rays provide coolness and also have medicinal properties. Therefore, if kheer is prepared and kept in moonlight, it acquires medicinal properties. This provides relief from diseases.
