Security arrangements have been tightened at Jantar Mantar in the capital Delhi in view of the fierce protests by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) over the NEET controversy that continued for the third day. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has completely closed 16 major metro stations in and around Lutyens’ Delhi till further orders, citing precautionary and security reasons. After this decision, entry and exit of passengers has been stopped at very busy stations like Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Janpath, Lok Kalyan Marg, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, Supreme Court, ITO, Delhi Gate, Khan Market and Shivaji Stadium.
Interchange continues at Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat, but passengers are in trouble
According to DMRC, although interchange arrangements have been made operational for the convenience of passengers at major stations like Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat, the exit and entry doors of the stations are completely closed. Due to this sudden decision, office going people, college students and common travelers are facing huge inconvenience. Huge crowds of passengers gathered inside stations like Mandi House and Rajiv Chowk, where many people were seen pleading and questioning the security personnel and Metro officials to let them out.
Traffic pressure increased on the roads, people got lost in search of alternative routes
Due to disruption of metro services, there was a sudden rush of passengers on the outskirts of Lutyens’ Delhi and at major bus stops. People are forced to stand in queues for hours for autos, cabs and buses. Due to heavy police force and barricades outside many stations, there has been a huge traffic jam on the roads of Central Delhi. Passengers have to walk for miles to reach their destination or have to take the help of several kilometers long alternative routes.
