Shimla, 19 August (HS). Due to the activity of monsoon in Himachal Pradesh, the clouds are raining heavily. Rain has been continuing in various parts of the state since last night. Meteorological Center Shimla has warned of heavy rain till 21st August. Yellow alert of rain has been issued in plains and mid-mountain areas. On the other hand, during the rain in the state, roads have been blocked due to landslides at many places. Along with this, there is power outage due to failure of a large number of transformers.

According to the State Emergency Operation Center, 146 roads across the state are closed due to landslides till Monday morning. 48 roads are blocked in Shimla district, 43 in Mandi, 33 in Kullu, 10 in Kangra, 5 in Solan, 2 in Kinnaur and 1 each in Bilaspur and Una. However, vehicular movement is continuing on all national highways and state highways of the state. Due to heavy rains, 301 transformers are damaged in the entire state. These include 151 in Mandi, 83 in Chamba, 33 in Hamirpur, 29 in Kullu and 5 in Kinnaur. Apart from this, 19 drinking water projects in Kullu and one in Bilaspur are also closed.

According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall of 142 mm was recorded in Nainadevi of Bilaspur district. At the same time, 120 mm rainfall was recorded in Baijnath of Kangra, 78 mm in Guler, 60 mm in Ghaghs, 60 mm in Bilaspur Sadar, 57 mm in Jogindernagar, 50 mm in Bharari, 47 mm in Palampur, 44 mm in Kangra and 42 mm in Dharamshala.

In the month of August, the state has received nine percent more rainfall than normal. Due to this, rivers and streams are in spate. The water level of various dams in the state has also increased. In view of the heavy rainfall in the next two days, the Meteorological Department has advised people not to travel to landslide-prone areas and to stay away from rivers and streams.

So far, the state has suffered a loss of more than 1140 crores due to monsoon. The Public Works Department has suffered the maximum loss of 502 crores and the Water Power Department has suffered a loss of 469 crores. In the last 52 days of the monsoon season, 86 incidents of cloudburst, floods and landslides have been reported. In these, 34 people died and 33 are missing. On the night of 31 July, cloudburst caused heavy destruction in Shimla, Mandi and Kullu districts.
