142 trips of special trains notified in NCR, 9111 trips operated

Prayagraj, 19 April (HS). To ensure passenger convenience and to meet the expected increase in travel demand during summers, Indian Railways is operating a record 9111 trips during the summer season. Whereas last year a total of 6369 trips were offered.

The additional trains have been carefully planned to connect major destinations across the country to ensure seamless travel on major rail routes. All zonal railways reduce the rush of passengers during the summer season across the country from states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi. Preparations have been made to operate these additional trips.

According to CPRO Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, among the railway zonal railways notified, Central Railway 488, Eastern Railway 254, East Central Railway 1003, East Coast Railway 102, North Central Railway 142, North Eastern Railway 244, Northeast Border Railway 88, Northern Railway 778, North Western Railway 1623, South Central Railway 1012, South Eastern Railway 276, South East Central Railway 12, South Western Railway 810, Southern Railway 239, P.M. Railways are 162 and Western Railways are 1878. Thus the total number of rounds is 9111.

The CPRO informed that planning and operating additional trains is an ongoing process. For which inputs are taken in the PRS system to assess the demand for trains running on a particular route. Based on this requirement, the number of trains and the number of trips are increased. Neither the number of trains nor the number of trips operated by additional trains remains constant for the entire season. Extensive arrangements for crowd control have been made at all major and important railway stations.
