13 hours journey will be completed in 6 hours, new expressway costing Rs 68000 crore may come | News India

According to DNA India, the preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) of the Konkan Expressway has begun and according to NBT, the MSRDC has begun the process of getting clearance from the environmental department for the highway. This new corridor will reduce travel time significantly while providing a comfortable experience to all travellers.

The 13 hour journey will be completed in 6 hours

The new expressway will connect Panvel (Navi Mumbai) and Sindhudurg via Raigad and Ratnagiri and is expected to reduce the travel time from Mumbai to Sindhudurg from the current 12-13 hours to 6 hours. According to an MSRDC official, the expressway will include a total of 14 interchanges.

Estimated cost: Rs 68,000 crore

According to reports, the project will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 68,000 crore and the upcoming corridor will require around 3,792 hectares of land, including 146 hectares of forest land.

According to the official, the travel time for passengers travelling from Mumbai to Goa via the expressway will be reduced from 12 hours to just six hours. The Konkan Expressway is also expected to boost tourism and create employment opportunities in the districts around the highway. On the other hand, the already approved Mumbai-Goa Expressway is likely to be operational from December 2024. The Mumbai-Goa Highway is being constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the state government-led National Highways Public Works Department (NH PWD).
