12 new industrial cities approved with investment of Rs. 28602 crore | News India

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet today approved setting up of 12 new industrial cities in 10 states like Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh and Dholera in Gujarat with an estimated investment of Rs 28,602 crore to boost domestic manufacturing.

These industrial cities will be set up at Khurpiya in Uttarakhand, Rajpura-Patiala in Punjab, Didhi in Maharashtra, Palakkad in Kerala, Agra and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, Gaya in Bihar, Zaheerabad in Telangana, Orwaral and Koppathi in Andhra Pradesh, Jodhpur and Pali in Rajasthan.

This decision was taken in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and the meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

After the meeting, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the Cabinet has approved the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) with an estimated investment of Rs 28,602 crore.

NICDP is expected to generate significant employment opportunities. The construction of these cities will generate direct employment for 10 lakh people and indirect employment for 30 lakh people through planned industrialisation. The project will generate investment potential of about Rs 1.52 lakh crore.

Eight such industrial towns are at various stages of implementation. Land allocation for industries is underway in four towns, Dholera (Gujarat), Orik (Maharashtra), Vikram Udyogpuri (Madhya Pradesh) and Krishnapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).

Besides, government special purpose vehicles (SPVs) are in the process of building roads, water and power supply and developing infrastructure in Tumkuru in Karnataka, Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Nangal Chaudhary in Haryana and Dadri (Greater Noida) in Uttar Pradesh.

The Union Cabinet has decided to allocate Rs 4136 crore to the North Eastern states for the development of hydropower projects. The hydropower project aims to generate 15,000 MW of electricity in the next eight years.

The Union Cabinet has approved the scope of the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF). Increasing the scope of AIF to Rs 1 lakh crore will help in increasing agriculture related infrastructure in the country.

This decision is expected to help in the development of the project. It will enhance community farming capabilities. This will improve the productivity and sustainability of the region.

Prime Minister Modi launched the AIF scheme in 2020. The scheme is playing a vital role in the construction of 6623 warehouses, 688 cold stores, 21 silo projects as well as additional storage capacity of about 500 lakh metric tonnes in the country. This includes 465 lakh metric tonnes of dry storage and 35 lakh metric tonnes of cold storage capacity. This additional storage capacity can save 18.6 lakh metric tonnes of food grains and 3.44 lakh metric tonnes of horticultural produce annually.

So far, Rs 47705 crore has been sanctioned for 74508 projects under AIF. These sanctioned projects have raised an investment of Rs 78,596 crore in the agriculture sector. Out of this, Rs 78,433 crore has been raised from private institutions. Apart from this, infrastructure projects sanctioned under AIF have helped in generating more than 8.19 lakh rural employment opportunities in the agriculture sector.

The Union Cabinet has approved three railway projects with a total estimated cost of Rs 6456 crore. These three projects will cover four states Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh. This project will benefit 1300 villages and 11 lakh people. The multi-tracking project will provide connectivity to 1300 villages and 19 lakh people.
