1000 churches protested against Waqf Board in Kerala, the matter reached hunger strike

Waqf vs Church in Kerala: There is an uproar across the country regarding the Waqf Board Amendment Bill. A large section of the Muslim community is vocal against this bill, while many Hindu organizations have come out in support of the bill. While there is an uproar over this bill in the entire country, a different kind of case has come to light in Kerala. One thousand churches have formed a front here against the alleged arbitrariness of Waqf.

According to a report, the Kerala Church has alleged that the Waqf Board is trying to forcibly take over the land of a large number of villagers. At present, the church has protested over the land dispute in Munambam and Cherai villages of Kochi. Actually, there are two villages named Munambam and Cherai in Kochi district of Kerala. The local people of the village allege that the Waqf Board wants to take illegal possession of their land and property and hence the Board has sued them.

Christian families live for many generations

The villagers (Christian families) say that they have been collecting taxes on their property for a long time. He also has the receipts for this. The lands on which Waqf is claiming are also registered in the name of local people, then how can the Waqf Board claim them? Kerala Church is very angry on this issue. The church says the Christian families live on land that has been claimed by the Waqf Board for generations.

People will go on hunger strike, protests will increase

The issue of Waqf claiming this land in Kerala has increased so much that many people of the Christian community have gone on hunger strike in protest against it. And plans are being made to increase this movement on a larger scale. The protesters of Munambam Land Conservation Committee have announced that they will protest to any extent if the problem is not resolved.

The central government has also been asked to intervene

“We have appealed to the central and state governments to intervene and resolve the Munambam issue,” said Major Archbishop Raphael Thatil, head of the Syro Malabar Church. This is a humanitarian issue. This should be resolved democratically as per the Constitution. On Saturday, the Archbishop also met the people sitting on hunger strike in Munambam.

Kerala Catholic Congress took the lead

The Syro Malabar Church is leading the protest on Sunday against the claim of the Waqf Board. One thousand churches protested on Sunday under the leadership of the Syro Malabar Church. According to sources associated with the church, the event was organized by the All Kerala Catholic Congress, the official community body of the church.
