Road Transport Ministry accident report: According to a report by the central government, 2,059 accidents occurred due to vehicles losing control in the year 2022. Whereas last year this figure was 19,478. In which it has been revealed that most of the accidents have occurred due to overspeeding. According to the report, bus accidents are increasing in the country, in which about 10 thousand people have died in a year.
Incidents of bus accidents are increasing in the country
36 people lost their lives in a bus accident in Almora, Uttarakhand due to dangerous roads, large vehicles, unqualified drivers and overloading, which has exposed the fundamental flaws and weaknesses of road safety in our country. Buses are crashing frequently and the number is increasing.
About 10 thousand people died
According to a report by the Road Transport Ministry, the number of accidents caused by drivers losing control of their vehicles has increased by more than five percent in 2022. 9,862 people have lost their lives in such accidents. With figures for 2023 expected to be released next week, the numbers have increased by ten percent.
What did the road safety expert say?
The ministry classifies these cases of accidents as run-off-the-road, i.e. accidents caused due to loss of vehicle control. In which accidents have also occurred due to vehicles falling into potholes in hilly areas like Uttarakhand. Road safety expert Anurag Kulshrestha says that the tragedy of the accident is sad, but its reasons are the same which were known earlier. Most drivers are not fully trained and normal safety standards are not followed.
Overloading poses greater risks
If the bus that met with an accident in Uttarakhand had more passengers than its capacity, then obviously the balance and speed of the bus would be affected. Every bus has been designed keeping in mind the seating capacity i.e. the seats available in it. The greater the overloading, the greater the risk. In 2022, more than five thousand bus accidents occurred, in which 1798 people died. The accident that took place in Uttarakhand shows that the driver lost control over the vehicle that was involved in the accident and the accident occurred.
suffering from psychological problems
According to Anurag Kulshrestha, his organization working for road safety examined the health and mental condition of more than a hundred drivers in Gurugram last year and found that more than half of them were suffering from blood pressure or some mental problem. The working conditions are not commercially suitable for them.
In such a situation, it is naturally dangerous for them to drive in dangerous places like Uttarakhand. The problem is also that people who do not have a valid license are also driving commercial vehicles. About 12 percent of accidents are caused by such drivers.
