Under sections 489A to 489E of the Indian Penal Code, counterfeit printing of notes or coins, circulation of counterfeit notes or coins, refusal to accept genuine coins are crimes. Under these sections, there is a provision to impose fine, imprisonment or both. If someone refuses to take the coin from you, you can take action against him with necessary evidence.
If a person refuses to accept the coin (if the coin is in circulation) then an FIR can be lodged against him. Action will be taken against him under sections of Indian Currency Act and IPC. A complaint can also be made to the Reserve Bank in this matter. After this, action can be taken against the shopkeeper or those who refuse to accept coins.
