A very shocking and deeply worrying survey report in the field of health has come out by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), located in the country’s capital New Delhi. According to this medical survey, 1 out of every 5, or about 20 percent, school-going girls studying in schools and colleges of the country do not have normal periods. Diseases like hormonal imbalance and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are spreading rapidly among girls who have crossed the threshold of adolescence, which can have far-reaching consequences on their health. After this comprehensive study by AIIMS, there has been a wave of concern among health experts, gynecologists and parents across the country, because such problems at an early age can lead to many other serious diseases like infertility, obesity, diabetes and mental stress in the future.
Surprising figures and scope of this important survey of AIIMS
This detailed study has been done by the experts of All India Institute of Medical Sciences regarding the health, eating habits and physical development of school girls. The survey included adolescent girls of different age groups and various aspects related to their menstrual cycle, irregularities, pain, bleeding and lifestyle were analyzed in detail. The results of the survey are really scary. About 20 percent of the girls confirmed irregular periods, excessive pain (Dysmenorrhea), and hormonal disturbances. Doctors say that earlier such health problems were seen in older women, but now it is becoming common in very young school girls, which is a clear sign of the danger of modern society and changing lifestyle.
PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) is becoming a big threat for teenage girls.
The main disease or syndrome most pointed out in this entire survey is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome i.e. PCOS and Polycystic Ovary Disease (PCOD). This is a hormonal disorder in which the level of male hormones (androgens) increases in the body of women, due to which cysts start forming in the ovaries and the cycle of periods becomes completely unbalanced. Due to this syndrome, problems like growth of unwanted hair on the face of girls, rapid weight gain, acne on the face, and hair fall become common. AIIMS experts believe that if these symptoms are not identified and treated in the early stages or the diet is not improved, then these problems can become incurable in the future.
Changing lifestyle, junk food and lack of physical activity are the main reasons.
The deteriorating lifestyle of the modern era is being considered to be the biggest reason behind hormonal imbalance and irregularity of periods in young girls. Nowadays, instead of playing outdoor games, school children and teenagers spend most of their time in front of mobile screens, laptops and TVs, due to which physical activity has become almost zero. Apart from this, indiscriminate consumption of packaged junk food, cold drinks, refined flour products, fast food and foods with excessive sugar is hollowing the hormonal system of their body from within. Not sleeping on time, staying awake all night and increasing mental stress due to exams or studies are also playing an important role in triggering this disease.
Warning for parents and necessary measures for timely improvement
After this scary survey of AIIMS, doctors and health consultants have given a strict warning to all the parents not to be careless about the health of their daughters. If a teenage girl’s periods are continuously irregular, there is a lot of pain or she suddenly starts gaining weight, then instead of ignoring it as normal, she should immediately consult a good gynecologist. Include green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, dry fruits and a balanced diet in the daily diet of girls and keep them away from junk food. Apart from this, the risk of this serious problem can be reduced to a great extent by making yoga, pranayam and regular exercise a part of their daily routine.
