A company from Orissa will construct the ropeway from the railway station to the Mahakal temple. The company's tender has been finalized. It is believed that it will be completed by the year 2026. For Mahakal Darshan, tourists can travel through ropeway from Ujjain Railway Station to Mahakal Temple. This contract has been awarded to MS Infra Engineer Construction Company of Orissa. The company has also started the initial work. The ropeway to be built from Ujjain Railway Station to Nutan School-Mahakal Mandir Administrative Office will be 1.76 km long. The ropeway, which will be operated with Monocable Detachable Gondola (MDG) system, will have 3 stations from the railway station to Mahakal Temple.
There will be 48 cabins in the ropeway
According to sources, there will be 48 cabins in the ropeway. Each cabin can accommodate 10 people at a time. The ropeway will remain operational for 16 hours. According to this, it is widely believed that more than 60 thousand devotees will be able to visit it in 16 hours. It will take about 6 minutes to reach the last station from the railway station. The ropeway will be operational by 2026.
Two to two and a half lakh tourists come to Ujjain every day.
In view of 2028, ropeway is being considered very important. Ever since the establishment of Shri Mahakal Lok, on an average two to two and a half lakh devotees are coming to see Mahakal every day on normal days, whereas on festivals and special occasions this number increases to 5 lakh to 10.50 lakh. In such a situation, keeping in mind the crowd management and convenience of the devotees, a ropeway has been planned in the city. For this, the Road Transport Ministry of the Central Government has sanctioned Rs 189 crore. The ropeway will be developed, operated and maintained by the National Highway-Ropeway Project.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced in 2022
In 2022, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shipping, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Nitin Gadkari reached Ujjain to inaugurate the roads. At that time he had talked about running air taxi for the convenience of the devotees coming to Mahakal temple. Later he gifted a ropeway from the stage and said that he would soon start it for the devotees of Mahakal in the city. After this, survey planning, DPR and other important works were completed. Now after the tender the ropeway work has started. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari also informed in a post on social media that the rope-way station will have food zone, waiting room, toilets along with bus and car parking facilities for the public.
