Shrikant Jichkar, an Indian central civil servant who at the age of 26 was the youngest member of the Legislative Assembly in the country and created a record by obtaining degrees from 20 universities, died on 2 June 2004. He died after his car was hit by a truck near Kondhali, about 61 km from Nagpur.
Born on 14 September 1954 in a Marathi family, Shrikant Jichkar's first degree was in Medicine (MBBS and MD from Nagpur), after which he obtained Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Laws in International Law, Master of Business Administration, Doctorate in Business Management, Bachelor of Journalism, Doctorate in Literature in Sanskrit and ten Master of Arts degrees in Public Administration, Sociology, Economics, Sanskrit, History, English Literature, Philosophy, Political Science, Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology and Psychology. Most of his degrees were with First Merit, he received many Gold Medals for his degrees.
In 1978 he appeared in the Indian Civil Services Examination, following which he was selected as a central civil servant under the Indian Police Service cadre. He later resigned from the cadre and appeared in the civil services examination in 1980 to become a central civil servant under the Indian Administrative Service cadre. Four months after joining, he resigned once again to contest his first general election, where he was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, becoming the youngest MLA in the country at the age of 26.
