Lucknow, July 15 (HS). State Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay held a virtual meeting with departmental officials on Monday in his office in Lucknow regarding the achievement of the upcoming plantation target under the 'Ped Lagao Ped Bachao' public campaign. In the meeting, he informed that the Yogi government has set a target of planting 36.50 crore saplings with public participation in the year 2024-25. Out of this, the Higher Education Department has to plant 22.54 lakh saplings this year.
He directed the officials to ensure that all necessary preparations are made on time. Care should also be taken to protect the plants being planted under the campaign. He said that work should be done on planting more trees than the target set for universities and colleges.
Emphasizing the importance of this campaign, the Higher Education Minister said that this initiative is very important for environmental protection and increasing greenery. He directed the officials to run public awareness campaigns for wide publicity to promote public participation and make the public aware about the benefits of tree plantation.
During the meeting, the officials informed about their preparations and plans in this regard and discussed various strategies to make the campaign successful. The minister also gave instructions to monitor and review the campaign regularly so that the set targets can be achieved on time. Principal Secretary in the Minister's Office M.P. Agarwal, Special Secretary Girijesh Tyagi and other departmental officers were connected virtually in the meeting.
