Saharsa, July 19 (HS). In order to make the state carbon neutral, a dissemination workshop was organized on Friday in the auditorium of the local development building under the project 'Bihar State's Climate Adaptation and Low Carbon Emission Development Strategy'. The program was inaugurated under the chairmanship of Kosi Divisional Commissioner Neelam Chaudhary.
Expressing his views in the workshop, he said that climate change has become an existential crisis not only for humans but also for flora, fauna and animals. He said, “The risk of disasters is very high in Saharsa, so such technical workshops are encouraging here. In the near future, there is a need to take the message of this workshop to the district and panchayat level, so that the implementation of strategies to deal with climate change can be ensured at the ground level. District Magistrate Vaibhav Chaudhary in his address emphasized on making efforts at the individual and community level to deal with climate change.
He said that the effect of climate change is being seen in the form of extreme heat and less rainfall. The balance of nature is deteriorating. While policies are being made at international, national and state levels to deal with climate change, individual efforts are equally important to ensure a liveable earth for our future generations. Individual efforts can be in the form of water conservation, not using plastic and promoting energy efficiency. Detailed information about the workshop was given by WRI India Program Manager Dr. Shashidhar Kumar Jha and Mani Bhushan Kumar Jha.
Officials from various departments and other stakeholders present at the programme also shared their views. The issues raised by the participants included renewable energy, energy conservation, urban greenery, deforestation and depletion of ground water level etc.
Deputy Development Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Nirala; Forest Division Officer, Prateek Anand, Regional Officer of Bihar State Pollution Control Board Sen Kumar, Assistant Forest Conservator Anish Kumar and other related officers were present in the workshop. These workshops are being organized in all the 09 divisions of Bihar. In this series, the next 6 workshops will be organized in the month of August.
