New Delhi: The central government has directed states to increase testing for respiratory illnesses including ILI (influenza-like illness) and SARI (severe acute respiratory infection).
Apart from this, the Central Government has asked the states to spread awareness about measures to prevent Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV). Today, two cases of HMPV have been found in Nagpur, taking the total number of cases of this virus in the country to seven.
Two suspected cases of HMPV were reported in Nagpur on Tuesday. However, both were discharged after treatment, a senior official said in a statement.
According to the official, samples of these two patients have been sent to AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) in Nagpur and National Institute of Virology in Pune.
Let us tell you that till yesterday there were five cases of HMPV in the country including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat. Meanwhile, Union Health Minister JP Nadda said that the government is keeping a close watch on the situation and there is no need to worry.
Union Health Secretary Srivastava held a virtual meeting with states and union territories yesterday. Srivastava said that there is no need to be afraid of this virus because it is present in the whole world since 2001.
