Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel in New York on Sunday. This meeting between the two leaders took place at a time when a war has been going on between Israel and Hamas in Gaza for the last one year. The Prime Minister expressed deep concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

PM Modi visited America. Giving information about this, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had said that in a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in New York, the PM had mentioned India's historical support to Palestine in the United Nations. He also mentioned India's continued humanitarian assistance to Palestine in the areas of health, education, capacity building and other areas.

During the meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas, the PM expressed deep concern over the emerging humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the deteriorating security situation in the region. On the Gaza conflict, the Prime Minister said that peace should be established here as soon as possible. PM Modi supported the two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine dispute and said that it can lead to lasting peace. India released the first installment of $2.5 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in July.

The Palestinian President thanked the Prime Minister for all the assistance provided to India, including on political issues, and expressed hope that India will continue its assistance and play its role in bringing peace to the region. The meeting between the two took place at a time when there is a war going on between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
