Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Dr. P.T. Usha has given a statement on Sunday which is being widely discussed. In this entire statement, the name of Vinesh was not mentioned, who was disqualified in 50 kg freestyle in the Paris Olympics. But it is believed that she gave special advice to Vinesh in gestures.
PT Usha gave a big statement
Former Olympian and now IOA chief Dr PT Usha said – Weight management is the responsibility of the player and the coach. Especially in sports like wrestling, weight lifting, boxing and judo. Weight management of a player in these sports is the responsibility of each player and his coach, and not the IOA-appointed Chief Medical Officer, Dr Dinsha Pardiwala and his team.
The IOA had appointed a medical team a few months ago, which will primarily assist in the recovery and injury management of the players during and after the event. This team was also formed to help those athletes who do not have their own team of nutritionists and physiotherapists.
Dr. Pardiwala was defended
Dr Usha said that the hatred towards the IOA medical team, especially Dr Pardiwala, is unacceptable and should not be condoned. She hoped that the IOA will consider all the facts before arriving at any conclusion by blaming the medical team. The statement came after Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the women's 50 kg weight category final as she weighed 100 grams more than the prescribed weight before the title bout.
The decision in the Vinesh case will come on August 13
Vinesh has appealed against her disqualification in the highest court of sports, the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). Phogat had earlier demanded to play the final match, but on her appeal, CAS said that it cannot stop the match, after which Phogat demanded a joint silver medal. The hearing in this case has been completed and a decision in this matter can come by the evening of August 13.
