Wireless Emergency Alert: The Government of India has introduced a wireless emergency system to alert citizens during disasters and emergency situations. This system sends alerts through mobile towers using cell broadcast technology. You receive this alert on your phone as an SMS, pop-up or sound notification. Even if your phone is SIM free or data is not activated, you will receive emergency alerts in case of any disaster or emergency.

Emergency mobile alerts are a way to get emergency information in your area. Emergency mobile alerts are sent to your mobile in case of earthquake, flood, landslide etc. There is no need to download any separate app for this. This feature is already present in Android phones. All you have to do is turn it on.

How do I turn on emergency alerts on my phone?

Phase 1: In Android phones, you will find the Wireless Emergency Alert option by going to Settings and 'Security and emergency'. You have to go to the phone settings to check if this feature is enabled in the phone or not.

Phase 2: Open your Android smartphone's Settings.

step 3: Then scroll down and tap on the Security & Emergency option.

Step 4 : Now you will see the option of Wireless Emergency Alert here.

Step 5: Here check if the Emergency Alert toggle is turned on. If it is off, turn it on.

Step 6: If it is on, check whether all types of alerts are enabled or not? This includes Extreme Threat, Critical Threat (the government is currently testing it), Amber Alert, Test Alert, and Area Update Broadcast. If all these alerts are not on, you can enable all of them to receive emergency alerts.
