Wet shoes not drying in winter? Stop waiting for sunshine, just adopt these 5 home remedies

Posts

News India Live, Digital Desk: Shoes often become wet due to winter rain or fog. Our first thought to dry them is to put them near the fire, but be careful! High flame or fire can damage the grip of shoes and their soles can melt. Here are ways to dry shoes ‘lovingly’:

1. ‘All-rounder’ magic of newspaper (Newspaper Trick)
This is the oldest and most effective method. If your sports shoes or office shoes are wet, make balls of newspaper and stuff them properly. Newspaper absorbs moisture very fast. Wrap a layer of newspaper on the outside of the shoes as well. Change the newspaper every 3-4 hours, the shoes will be completely dry by morning.

2. Use of Hair Dryer
If you have to go somewhere very quickly, a hair dryer can become your best friend. But remember, do not run the hair dryer on very high heat. Keep it at a distance from the shoes and run it so that the hot air reaches inside the shoes. Instead of running it continuously, use it in short breaks.

3. The Rice Hack
Just as you bury your phone in rice when it gets wet, you can do the same with shoes too. Fill a large bag or box with dry rice and place the shoes in it. Rice is a natural dehumidifier. However, this is a ‘last resort’ to save on expensive shoes.

4. Benefit of ‘air’ behind the refrigerator (Near Heat Vents)
The compressor of the refrigerator or AC produces mild heat. You can put your shoes in the back or bottom of the refrigerator (where warm air comes out). Take care that they should not stick at all. That gentle warmth overnight will dry the shoes from the inside without damaging them.

5. Hot Salt Solution
Heat salt in a pan and fill it in an old sock or cotton cloth and make a bundle. Now put this hot salt bundle inside the shoe. The salt will eliminate stubborn moisture and odors hiding within the shoes.

A bonus tip:
If the shoes smell bad even after they dry, put a pinch of baking soda or a tea bag inside. The next morning your shoes will not only be dry, but will also feel completely fresh.
