Voting for the sixth phase begins, more than 2 crore 70 lakh voters will cast their votes | Live Updates, Unveiling the Latest India News Trends

Lucknow, May 25 (HS). Voting started at 7 am today (Saturday) on 14 Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh. Voting is being held in Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Phulpur, Allahabad, Ambedkarnagar, Shravasti, Dumariyaganj, Basti, Sant Kabirnagar, Lalganj (reserved), Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Machhlishahr (reserved) and Bhadohi district in the 14 seats of the sixth phase. In this phase, two crore 70 lakh 69 thousand 874 voters will decide the fate of 162 candidates.

Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh Navdeep Rinwa said that voting for the sixth phase has started at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. All the voters who are present in the queue at the polling booth till 6 pm will be able to exercise their right to vote.

There are a total of 2 crore 70 lakh 69 thousand 874 voters in the sixth phase, of which 1 crore 43 lakh 30 thousand 361 are male voters and 1 crore 27 lakh 38 thousand 257 are female voters. There are 1,256 third gender voters. In terms of number of voters, the highest number of voters is in Sant Kabir Nagar and the lowest number of voters is in Allahabad Lok Sabha constituency.

He informed that a total of 162 candidates are in the fray in these Lok Sabha constituencies, out of which 146 are men and 16 are women candidates. The maximum number of 26 candidates are in Pratapgarh Lok Sabha constituency and the minimum number of six candidates are in Dumariyaganj Lok Sabha constituency.

In this sixth phase, mainly senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi from Sultanpur, BJP's Dinesh Lal Yadav 'Nirahua' and SP's Dharmendra Yadav from Azamgarh, BJP's Saket Mishra from Shravasti, BJP's Jagdambika Pal from Dumariyaganj, BJP's Neeraj Tripathi and Congress's Ujjwal Raman Singh from Allahabad and Kripashankar Singh on BJP ticket from Jaunpur are in the fray.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that there are a total of 28,171 polling booths in the sixth phase of elections, out of which 3978 are critical. There are 17,113 polling stations. Sufficient paramilitary forces and local forces have been deployed to conduct the elections peacefully.

The Commission has also deployed three special observers, 14 general observers, 08 police observers and 18 expenditure observers. Apart from this, 2,192 sector magistrates, 282 zonal magistrates, 24 static magistrates and 2833 micro observers have also been deployed.

Navdeep Rinwa said that full precaution has been taken to avoid the scorching heat and heat wave. All polling stations have provision of cold drinking water, toilets, wheel chairs and chairs for the handicapped and the elderly. Shade has been arranged for the queue of voters in the polling station premises. Paramedics and ASHA workers will be present at each polling station with adequate ORS and medical kits. Ambulance service is also available for emergency situations.
