Vice President presents Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards to four Oriya artistes


Bhubaneswar: Four veteran Oriya artistes were honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Puraskar-2022 by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in New Delhi on Saturday. The awardees include Chhau dancer Siba Prasad Das, theater director Anant Mahapatra, folk musician (Brahma Veena player) Anand Bagh and Gotipua dancer Gobinda Chandra Pal. He was honored for his contribution in the field of performing arts.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a copper plate and an Angavastram. The recipients were selected by the General Council of the Academy consisting of eminent musicians, dancers, theater artists and scholars in these disciplines and nominees from the Government of India, State Governments. New Delhi-based Odissi dancer Kumkum Lal, who was a disciple of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, also received the award.
This is a one-time honor conferred by the Academy on 86 senior artistes as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence. The selected people are above 75 years of age and have not been given any national honor in their career till now. The list of award winners was announced in November last year.
Minister of Law and Justice (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Culture and Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal and Minister of State for Culture and External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi were present.
