New Delhi: Former ambassador to Bangladesh Veena Shikri said yesterday (Monday) evening that these riots are a matter of concern for India. We share 4000 kilometers with Bangladesh. We have a long border. Those riots may touch us as well. BSF will have to be requested to prevent this from happening.

He said that riots started there in the name of removal of quota. Originally this movement started with students. But later other citizens also joined it. Actually, the banned group Jamaat-e-Islami is behind this. It is well known that this group has direct links with Pakistan.

Along with Pakistan, its patron nation China is also involved, which was sidelined during Sheikh Hasina's recent visit to China. When Sheikh Hasina went to China, she was not given a proper political welcome. Also, Hasina's proposal for a one-to-one meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping was not accepted.

Rioters also vandalised the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre and the Bangabandhu Sheikh Wazir Rahman Memorial Museum in Dhaka.

Representatives of Sheikh Hasina's Awami League, founded by Sheikh Wazir Rahman, were not invited to the all-party conference called by Bangladesh's military chief.

It is well known that the Bangladesh Army Chief is a supporter of China. It is said that he played a major role behind these riots.
