WASHINGTON: It is ridiculous that the US has a hand in the resignation of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In fact, such rumours are also based on misinformation, US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said in a press conference on Tuesday (local time).
Patel further said that there has been a lot of misinformation about the US in recent weeks regarding the events going on in Bangladesh. But we always strive to maintain both the integrity and reputation and commitment of our allies in that region, especially in South-East Asia.
“I have not seen any plausible evidence for such a claim,” Vedant Patel, an expert on US foreign policy and director of the Wisconsin Center’s South Asian Institute, said in an interview with Michael Kugelman.
Vedant Patel said that according to me this crisis has arisen due to internal reasons. The attempts of the Hussain government to strictly suppress the student movement over job reservation provoked this relatively calm movement. The movement became so intense that Sheikh Hasina finally had to step down and leave the country. However, I have not yet been able to find out what Sheikh Hasina's son has to say about her departure, as well as not much information has been received from others.
