UP: OPD services of government hospitals affected, agitation intensifies | News India

Lucknow, 17 August (HS). On Saturday morning, the attendants who brought their patients to government hospitals and medical institutions in Uttar Pradesh had to face a lot of difficulties. The agitation of the resident doctors of the state has intensified in the case of rape and murder of a woman doctor in Kolkata. Due to this, the OPD service in hospitals has been completely affected.

OPD services were affected since morning in Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civil Hospital in the state capital. Resident doctors boycotted medical related work. Doctors informed that they will go on strike until the Kolkata incident is revealed. Similarly, resident doctors of King George Medical University stopped working in OPD. Resident doctors also formed groups and raised slogans against the Chief Minister of West Bengal.

Apart from various government hospitals in the state, labs and pathology centres were also found locked since this morning. The officials of Uttar Pradesh and regional units of the Indian Medical Association have called for a nationwide strike on Saturday in connection with the tragic incident that happened with a female doctor in Kolkata, the effect of which is clearly visible in all the districts of the state including Lucknow.

OPD services started in the morning at SN Medical College in Agra district, but in a short while the resident doctors stopped working. After this, there was a rush of patients and their relatives. When the crowd gathered outside the OPD, the security personnel took everyone out one by one, and then there was a ruckus.

Just like Lucknow and Agra, doctors in Kanpur also declared strike by stopping OPD work in LLR Hospital. Doctors declared complete stoppage of work for the next 24 hours and demanded strict punishment for the accused of Kolkata incident. In Varanasi, resident doctors in SPG Civil Hospital registered their protest by stopping work, while OPD service got disrupted due to doctors going on strike in Trauma Center.

The resident doctors of BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur have been the worst affected by the rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata. The doctors went on strike by stopping OPD services. In the morning, the doctors protested by demonstrating from the medical college to the road. The doctors have demanded immediate and strict action against the culprits.
