Ukrainian air force commander sacked over 'F-16 fighter plane crash' | News India

Kiev, August 31 (HS). President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday sacked Ukraine's Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk over the F-16 fighter plane crash. This action was taken a day after the report surfaced. It is noteworthy that the plane crashed on Monday while thwarting the Russian attack and its pilot died.

President Zelenskyy said in his address, “I have decided to replace the commander of the Air Force… I will always be grateful to all military pilots.” He did not give a reason for the dismissal but mentioned that personnel must be protected, and the command level needs to be strengthened.

Ukraine's General Staff said Gen. Lt. Anatoliy Krivonozhka would temporarily take over the duties of commander. A U.S. defense official said the crash was under investigation. The accident was not caused by Russian gunfire. Pilot error or mechanical failure could be the cause.
