Two more players withdraw from India Open

New Delhi: Two more players have withdrawn from the main draw of the Yonex Sunrise India Open badminton tournament ahead of their mixed doubles semi-final match due to the Corona pandemic.

Second-seeded Russian mixed doubles player Rodion Alimov was found to be corona infected, who withdrew from the tournament worth $400,000.

His mixed doubles partner Elina Davletova also had to withdraw due to being in close contact.

Indonesia’s Yong Kei Terry Hee and Wei Han Tan got walkovers.

“The Badminton World Federation confirms that one player tested positive in the current draw has withdrawn from the Yonex Sunrise India Open 2022,” the World Badminton Federation said in a statement.

It said, “This player was found positive in the mandatory RT PCR test on Friday. The partner who was in close contact with him has also withdrawn his name. His rivals got a walkover.”

Earlier yesterday, seven Indian players, including World Championship silver medalist Kidambi Srikanth, had to withdraw after being found infected.
