Turkey launches airstrikes on PKK targets in Iraq

ANKARA: Turkey’s Defense Ministry said the Turkish military carried out two air strikes on targets of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Iraq.
According to a ministry statement issued on Saturday, air operations conducted on Wednesday and Friday targeted PKK positions in the Gara region, destroying a total of 31 positions and “neutralizing” senior members of the group. Went.
The ministry said the targets included caves, shelters and caches used by PKK members.
Turkish officials often use the word “neutralized” in their statements, meaning the “terrorists” have surrendered or been killed or captured, Xinhua news agency reported.
Turkish security forces frequently conduct cross-border operations in northern Iraq, where PKK militants have hideouts and bases from which they carry out attacks against Turkey.
The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the European Union, has waged an insurgency against the Turkish government for more than three decades.
